I. Прочитайте, а затем письменно переведите 2, 3, 4, 5 абзацы текста. Английский текст перепишите на левой странице тетради, русский – на правой:

The Wings of Main Planes.

1. The wing is one of the main parts of the aeroplane which extends equally on each side of the fuselage. It serves for creating lift and supporting the machine in the air. Constituting the main supporting and lifting surfaces the wings must have good aerodynamic profiles, i. e.[*], good streamlined shape. The design of the wing depends upon such factors as the size, weight and the use of the aeroplane, desired speed, rate of climb.

2. The wing consists of the following structural members: spars, stringers, ribs and skin. Spars are principal span-wise members of the wing structural foundations of the wing. All air loads acting on the wing in flight are transferred from the skin to the ribs then to the spars.

3. Ribs are chord-wise members of the wing structure. Their function is twofold. They serve for giving the wing special streamlined shape and for transferring air loads from the skin to the spar.

4. Stringers are span-wise members, they are riveted to the inside of the skin parallel to and between the spars to reinforce the skin. In modern design the skin, riveted to the ribs and stringers not only transfers the loads to the ribs but carries a part of wing stresses and such a construction is called the stressed skin construction.

5. Structural members may be made of different materials, this varies with the type of the aeroplane. If the members of the design are made entirely of metal, the wing is of all metal construction. In this case the structural members are made of aluminium alloy, titanium alloy and alloy steel.
