Adverbial clauses (підрядні обставинні речення)

Підрядні обставинні речення(adverbial clauses) виконують функцію різних обставин головного речення і поділяються на підрядні речення часу, причин, місця, наслідку, мети, способу дії, а також умовні та допустові речення.

Підрядні речення часу з’єднуються з головним реченням за допомогою сполучників when -коли, after -після того як, before -перш ніж, перед тим як, while - у той час як, поки; as -коли, в той час як, в міру того як; till, untill -поки, whenever -кожного разу, коли; as soon as -як тільки; as long as -поки; since -з того часу як:

I’ll buy that novel when it comes out.

Я куплю той роман, коли він вийде.

Підрядні речення міcця з’єднуються з головним за допомогою сполучників where -де, куди; wherever -де б не, куди б не:

She stood where I had left her.

Вона стояла там, де я залишив її.

Підрядні речення причини приєднуються до головного речення здебільшого за допомогою сполучників because -бо, тому що; as since -оскільки, тому що; for -через те що:

I believe you because I know you. -Я вірю вам, бо знаю вас

Підрядні речення наслідку з’єднуються з головним за допомогою сполучника so that -так що, тож. Якщо so стоїть всередині головного речення, то підрядне речення набуває ще додаткового значення міри або ступеня:

That boy used to get ill about twice a week, so that he couldn’t go to school.

Той хлопець майже кожного тижня двічі хворів, тож він не міг ходити до школи.

Підрядні речення мети з’єднуються з головним за допомогою сполучників so that, that, so, in order that -щоб; lest -щоб не.

Write to him at once so that he may know our plans.

Напиши йому зараз же, щоб він знав про наші плани.

Підрядні речення способу дії та порівняння з’єднуються за допомогою сполучників as -як, as...as -так... як; not so...as -не так...як; than -чи; as if, as though -наче, ніби; the more...the more чим більше...тим більше:

I shall do as I like. -Я робитиму так, як мені подобається.

Підрядні допустові речення з’єднуються з головним реченням за допомогою сполучників though, although -хоч, хоча; as -хоч; whoever -хто б не; whatever -що б не; however - я кий би не; whichever - як би не;

She did not cry though the tears were often in her eyes – Вона не плакала, хоч сльози часто були в її очах.
