The results of the first year

So, the first year at the college was over. It was full of pleasant and sometimes unpleasant events. To remember every day of their studies Dolores and Jane put down all the events they thought to be important into their diaries. They decided to exchange them to see which of the events impressed each of them. Jane devoted many pages to the description of Mr. Brown’s seminars and their importance for improving her knowledge in economics. Dolores wrote about her insight of England, English education, her new friends and of course initial successes in her first work. Her results were appreciated and she was even awarded the title of the “Best pen”* in advertising business.

To pass their annual examinations with the top degree* the two friends worked much. Their hard working resulted in great success. They both were named the best students of the year. To get such a title was very pleasant. But more important for them were the skills they had got in economics. They made their first steps in business, mastered accounting operations and tried to apply their theoretical knowledge to practice. They got to know* how banking business was organized, how to get profit and avoid economic risks. They understood the role and necessity of taxation and importance of insurance. Of course, it’s only the firs “chapter” of their professional going up* but still there is the chance to be pleased and satisfied with what had been done.
