Dialogue. (MOLLY is in Vermont on a ski vacation

(MOLLY is in Vermont on a ski vacation. JACK did not go with her. He's talking to YOLANDA now.)

YOLANDA: Lucky Molly! She must be having a wonderful time up there in Vermont.

JACK: Yes, she must be. But why did she go alone? She didn't say much about that before she left.

YOLANDA: You know, I was a little surprised that she went alone too.

JACK: Why didn't she ask me to go with her? Something must be wrong.

YOLANDA: Why? Did you two have an argument about something?

JACK: No. I thought everything was fine. But now I'm beginning to wonder. Could she be thinking of breaking up¹ with me?

YOLANDA: Jack, she couldn't be thinking of that. Molly tells me almost everything.

JACK: She does?

YOLANDA: Stop worrying. She never said anything to me about breaking up with you.

JACK: I'm afraid she might fall in love with one of those handsome ski instructors. She might forget me. She may not come back. I may never see her again.

YOLANDA: Wow, Jack. You must really be in love.²Don't worry so much. Of course she'll come back.

JACK: I sure hope you're right.

YOLANDA: Look, Jack. You could call Molly. I have the telephone number of her hotel.

JACK: I thought of calling her last night, but then I changed my mind. Why hasn't she called me? She must not be thinking of me at all.

YOLANDA: Oh, come on. Why don't you give her a call? Who knows? She mightbemissing you very much.

JACK: Do you think so? Hey, I have an idea. I could take the bus up to Vermont tomorrow. I could really surprise her.

YOLANDA: But she'll be home in two days.

JACK: Oh, yeah. That's right. I guess I can wait.

¹ To break up with someone means «to end a relationship; to (top going out with someone).»

² To be in love has a different meaning from to love. We can say, «I love my parents,» but we can't say, «I am in love with my parents. For a relationship between a man and a woman, we can say both «Jack loves Molly» and «Jack is in love with Molly.» To be in love has a romantic meaning.
