The ancestral seat of the Earls Castle Stewart is Stuart Hall, Stewartstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, which remains in the ownership of the family

Monea castle

Monea Castle is a castle in Monea, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is three storeys high with tall attics and has a rectangular plan with a pair of massive semi-cylindrical towers on the short west end. It is a State Care Historic Monument sited in the townland of Castletown Monea, in Fermanagh District Council area.

Monea Castle is situated where a Maguire castle would have been based prior to the Plantation and a crannog is still visible. Building was started in 1616 by the Rector of Devenish, the Reverend Malcolm Hamilton. It had a bawn built later, in 1622, shortly before Hamilton was promoted to become Archbishop of Cashel in 1623.

In the Irish Rebellion of 1641 it was attacked by Rory Maguire, who "slew and murthered eight Protestants" here. In 1688 it was occupied by Gustav Hamilton, the Governor of Enniskillen, who died in 1691. His wife and children continued to live at Monea, but had to sell the estate in 1704. A few decades later the castle was gutted by fire and subsequently abandoned.

Enniskillen Castle

Enniskillen Castle is situated in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The first castle was built on this site by Hugh Maguire in the 16th century. It consists of two sections, a central keep and a curtain wall and provided the main defence for the west end of the town and guarded the Sligo road. It has been substantially rebuilt. It is a State Care Historic Monument, at grid ref: H2315 4422.[1]

It featured greatly in Irish rebellions against English rule in the 16th century and was taken after an eight day siege in 1594. In 1607 it was remodelled and refurbished by Captain William Cole. The riverside tower at the south, known as the Watergate, was added at this time.

In the 18th century the castle was remodelled as the Castle Barracks.

Fermanagh County Museum

The castle is now home to the Fermanagh County Museum, which focuses on the county's history, culture and natural history. Exhibits include the area's prehistory, natural history, traditional rural life, local crafts and Belleek Pottery, and history of the castle.

Inniskillings Museum

The castle also houses the Inniskillings Museum, which is the regimental museum of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards. Displays include uniforms, medals, flags, regimental regalia, weapons and other military memorabilia.

The following are the current most viewed articles on Wikipedia within Wikipedia's Cinemas in Northern Ireland category. Think of it as a What's Hot list for Cinemas in Northern Ireland.

The Queen's Film Theatre, or QFT for short, is an art house Cinema in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the largest cultural cinema in Ireland. It houses two medium sized screens featuring luxury French seating. In 2004 it underwent an extensive refurbishment and now includes a bright, modern bar and a new entrance on to University Square, which is on the site of its owners - Queen's University Belfast.

History

The QFT opened in 1968. Financial difficulties and problems with attracting funding have dogged the cinema over the years, but it has remained in constant operation apart from a short closure in 1972. In 1996 it presented one of the largest seasons of classic cinema to celebrate the Centenary of Cinema. It currently has a sponsorship deal with BT.

Michael Open was the cinema's director from 1968 until 2004, except for a three-year period during the mid 1970s when it was run by Robert Caldicott. Susan Picken now directs. The QFT also hosts the majority of the Belfast Film Festival screenings.

The Strand Cinema

The Strand Cinema is an independent four-screen cinema in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is one of the two remaining independent cinemas in Belfast, alongside the Queen's Film Theatre. It is located on the Holywood Road.

Opened in 1935, the cinema's design was influenced by its proximity to the nearby shipyard of Harland & Wolff, featuring curved walls and portholed foyer. The cinema underwent various unsympathetic renovations throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In 1999, the building was restored to its original art deco style, and remains a landmark in east Belfast.

The Strand is one of the venues for the Belfast Film Festival, during which it screens classic films. During the 2005 festival the cinema celebrated its 70th birthday by screening A Night to Remember, the 1958 film about the sinking of RMS Titanic, built by Harland & Wolff.

The cinema operates a "wacky wednesday" option were all screenings ae only £3.00 in.

At the time it was the largest Cinema in Ireland with 2,001 seats. It was demolished in 1992 following a fire. The old Compton Theatre Organ, formerly in the Tonic Cinema, is now in the care of Bangor Academy School. It is one of only two Theatre Organs still in Northern Ireland, the other being in the Movieland Cinema, Newtownards, County Down, where it was installed in 1994, having originally been in the Ambassador Cinema, Hounslow, West London.
