Quantities adjectives:

Much, many, few, little, a lot of

NB!

· much – with uncountable nouns in questions and negative sentences.

e.g: We haven’t got much time.

· many – with plural countable nouns in questions and negative sentences.

e.g: Are there many restaurants in town?

Notes

· To ask about quantity, we use

How much + uncountable noun:

e.g: How much milk did you buy?

How many + plural countable noun:

e.g: How many students are there in the group?

· a few + plural noun.

e.g: There are a few letters on the desk for you, Mrs. Andrews.

· a little + uncountable noun.

e.g: I like a little milk in my tea, please.

a lot of can be used with countable and uncountable nouns

e.g: I have a lot of time.

There is a lot of snow outside.
