My Friend

I have many friends, but my best friend is Victor. He is twenty-five. He is my classmate. We have known each other for more than ten years. Now we are students of the same Institute. He works with a firm and he is very busy.

In appearance he is very attractive: tall and strong with fair hair and a straight nose. He is very intelligent. When he was at school he organized a pop music group and he wanted to be a musician later. Then he changed his mind and now he is in the fourth year of the Moscow International Law and Economics Institute after A.S. Griboyedov.

Victor is also very good at sports. He plays football very well. When he was at school he took part in skating competitions. He often took prizes.

His interests are broad. He likes photography and he always takes photographs of the places he visits. He travels very much. He is married and his wife travels with him. He saw many things in our country and abroad.

He does well at the institute. He is never late for classes. He always has good marks in the subjects we study: Law, History and English. He often helps me with English papers and texts.

We have the same interests so we spend as much free time as possible. We go skiing in the winter and swimming and fishing in the summer. He goes hunting, but I do not. I do not like killing animals. For him it is sport. I think he is a good husband, because he helps his wife about the house and can do everything when she is away on business.

My Flat (My House)

I live in new three-room flat on the fifth floor of a big block of flats in one the sleeping districts of Vologda. It is a nine-storied building of modern design. In front of it there is a large playground for children and a nice small garden with trees and flowers. Mothers take their children out for a walk on sunny days and old people like sitting on the benches to discuss the latest news.

I like my flat with modern conveniences. We have central heating, running hot and cold water, electricity and gas, telephone. There is also a lift in the house, but I walk. I never use it. I need exercise.

There are three rooms: two bedrooms and a living-room which we use as a sitting- room. I like it very much. It is our largest room with a window facing the garden. It is calm and there is not much noise outside. There is cosy sofa and two armchairs near one wall and a TV- set opposite it. We often watch TV and different films on VCR (video cassette recorder). There is a big carpet on the floor. My wife is a good pianist and there is a piano with a round stool at it. There are two pictures over the piano and a vase on it. The curtains on the large window are very nice. We like to spend our free time in this room.

The two bedrooms are very alike with beds, bedside tables some chairs and a wardrobe. There is a writing table and a chair in my bedroom, because I have to read up for my exams.

My wife is proud of our kitchen with the gas stove, refrigerator, a cupboard and a lot of shelves which I made myself. We use the kitchen as a dining room. But when we receive guests we lay the table in the sitting room. The kitchen is the place where we meet for meals and discuss our family events and plans.

The bathroom is near the kitchen. It is very convenient. We keep our toilet articles in it. We have a bath and a shower.

There is also a small hall where we have a hallstand and a big mirror on the wall. There is also a telephone here on the special table under the mirror.
