Travelling on business





 

I. Write down some words and expressions from the film.

 

1. Right – if time is tight, it is difficult for you to do everything you need to do in the time available; e.g. a very tight schedule.

2. On spec – if you do something on spec, you do it without being sure that you will get what you are hoping for; e.g. I sent in an application on spec.

3. On spec and on price – at a reasonable and acceptable price.

4. Franchise – permission to sell a company’s goods or service, that is given or sold to a business person; e.g. a Levi’s franchise.

5. Franchise holder – a franchisee, i.e. someone who is given or sold a franchise.

6. To broaden – to increase something such as knowledge, experience, or your range of activities; e.g. This film will broaden your knowledge of business English.

7. To broaden one’s horizons – to increase one’s experience, activities and opportunities.

8. To brief – to give official instructions that explain what someone’s job is, what their duties are, how they should behave etc.

9. Charge card – a credit card to make payments without using cash.

10. Aisle – a long passage between rows of seats, shelves, etc in a building or a plane.

11. Bell captain – a bell hop (AmE), or a bellboy (BrE), a young man who carries bags, takes messages etc in a hotel.

IV. Give a proper Russian interpretation of the following sentences and phrases from the film. Try and avoid over-literal rendering.
