Showing VIsitors around the company





 

I. Write down some words and expressions from the film.

 

1. To give a guided tour – to show somebody around some place.

2. Set up – organization.

3. Intersection – a place where roads, lines etc cross each other, especially where two roads meet.

4. Green-field site – a piece of land that has never been built on before.

5. A new development – a new district, or just a group of new buildings that have all been planned and built together on the same piece of land.

6. C.E.O. – Chief Executive Officer.

7. Robotics – automatic devices with some traits of artificial intelligence.

8. To commit smth to smth – to decide to use money, time, people etc for a particular purpose; e.g. A large amount of money has been committed to this project.

9. Solar energy – energy of the sun.

10. A down side – a drawback; a disadvantage of a situation, product etc.

11. Component – one of several parts that together make up a whole machine or system.

12. Rival – a person, group, or organization that you compete with in sport, business, a fight etc.

13. A strong option – a good variant.

14. Fairly – very.

15. To work smth out – to find a compromise or solution to a problem.

16. Outline – a draft document that gives the main ideas or facts about something, without the details.

17. To mark – to write or draw something on some surface to show what is beyond it; e.g. There is a door on the right hand side marked “Deliveries.”

18. Flexible – easily changeable and adaptable to a new situation.

19. People in-house – the company staff.

20. Assessment – a process in which you make a judgment about a person or situation.

21. Expertise – data, information obtained from experts.

22. To deserve – to have earned something by good or bad actions or behaviour; e.g. You have been working all morning. I think you deserve a rest.

 

II. Translate the new vocabulary into Russian.

 

III. Watch the film for the 1st time.

IV. Give a proper Russian interpretation of the following sentences and phrases from the film. Avoid over-literal rendering.
