Robin Hood the butcher

One day, Robin Hood saw a man riding through the forest (однажды Робин Гуд увидел в лесу едущего верхом мужчину: «увидел, как какой‑то мужчина едет верхом через лес»). The man answered, «I'm not going to tell you where I live (я не собираюсь говорить тебе, где я живу), but I'm a butcher (но я мясник). My baskets are full of meat, and I'm going to Nottingham to sell it (мои корзины наполнены мясом, и я еду в Ноттингем, чтобы продать его).»

Robin Hood gladly paid the butcher the money (Робин Гуд с радостью заплатил мяснику эти деньги). Then he rode the butcher's horse to Nottingham (после чего он поехал на лошади мясника в Ноттингем). The Sheriff of Nottingham took three hundred pieces of gold. He rode with Robin to see the «horned beasts» and the land.

Robin led the way into Sherwood Forest.

«Is this the way?» said the sheriff. «God the man they call save us from Robin Hood!»

A little further along the forest road (немного дальше по дороге /уходящей в лес/), Robin Hood saw about a hundred good red deer (Робин увидел около сотни хороших благородных оленей; red deer – благородный олень: «красный олень»). «I don't like this (мне это не нравится),» said the sheriff. «And I don't like you (и ты мне не нравишься). I'm going back to Nottingham (я возвращаюсь в Ноттингем).»

Robin Hood sounded his horn three times (Робин Гуд три раза протрубил в свой рог).

Robin Hood sounded his horn three times.

Little John came running through the trees at the head of all Robin Hood's merry men (Малыш Джон выбежал из леса: «прибежал сквозь деревья» во главе славных товарищей Робина Гуда; head – голова; передняя, головная часть /процессии, колонны и т. п./).

«What must we do, Robin Hood (что мы должны сделать, Робин Гуд)?» asked Little John.

«What must we do, Robin Hood?» asked Little John.

So Robin Hood led the sheriff through the greenwood to the road (поэтому Робин Гуд вывел шерифа через лес к дороге).
