The ergotherapyprocedure with bloodsucking

· Make the patient ready (lying or sitting depending on the place of application).

· Process the skin: shave hair off, smear with alcohol (hydrogen peroxide), smear with hot water several times; smear the part of body prepared for application with glucose solution.

· Take the leeches out of the jar (2-3 more than is required) using a scoop or palm of your hand (the skin there is harder).

· It is forbidden to take the leeches using forceps, because it can cause paralysis.

· Take the leeches from the jar one by one and put them in a tube; bring the tube close to the skin and slant it so that the leech moves to the skin, control her movement with the cotton wool bud dipped in hot water (no more than 90⁰C).

· When the leech sticks to the skin (pierces the skin and starts wavy movements), take the tube away and place a napkin under the second, back sucker.

· The leeches should be placed evenly, not interlying on each other; in case a leech falls asleep before engorgement you should smear it with the cotton wool bud dipped in warm water.

· When the leeches have enough blood they fall off by themselves.

· It is forbidden to tear the leeches off, because it causes bleeding!

· Place a dry aseptic bandage with much absorbent cotton; if necessary (the cotton soaked much blood) the bandage is doubled; the bandage is changed in a day.

· Used leeches are placed into formaldehyde (or ammonia spirit).

The ergotherapy procedure without bloodsucking

· Repeat the first five stages mentioned above.

· To take off a leech the skin is smeared with: alcohol, iodine solution, calcium chloride10% solutionor sodium chloride 10% (hypertensive) solution.

· Place a dry aseptic bandage (change it in a day).

· Place used leeches in formaldehyde (or ammonia spirit).
