Microcomputers on Farms

An interesting new development in the USA management is the wide use of small computers. Large commercial firms have been using computers for many years but they have been very expensive for a farmer.

When first invented, a computer-processing unit would have filled a large room. Microcomputers produced now are smaller than matchboxes and com­paratively cheap.

Commercial organizations dealing with farm business have developed spe­cial programs to be used for processing the farm information by microcomput­ers. These programs are sold together with microcomputers directly to farmers. Some of the programs from the commercial organizations are concerned with farm accounting and others with general enterprise management. A farmer desir­ing to use one of the programs for microcomputers has to prepare proper re­cords, code them, and feed into the machine.

Anyone using a computer must always remember that the quality of infor­mation fed into it determines the quality of any result it produces.

Among the programs for microcomputers farm accounting are most widely used.
