Staying at a hotel





 

I. Write down some words and expressions from the film.

 

1. A suite – a set of rooms, especially expensive ones in a hotel.

2. To complete a form – to fill in/out a form.

3. A bell hop – a servant of the lowest rank being on duty at a hotel floor.

4. To serve dinner – to provide customers with dinner at a restaurant.

5. To have a strong presence – to have a strong position (on the market etc).

6. A tone – a sound made by electronic equipment, such as a telephone.

7. Would you care to (do something)? – a speech exponent of politeness used to express a request or proposal; e.g. Would you care to follow me? = Would you please follow me?

8. A waiter – a person who serves customers at a restaurant.

9. Strip – a long narrow piece of something.

10. Pullet – a young chicken during its first year of laying eggs.

11. To steam – to cook something in steam.

12. Leek – a vegetable with a long white stem and long flat green leaves, which tastes a little like an onion.

13. To garnish – to add something to food in order to decorate it.

14. Snow peas – white peas (pea is a large round green seed that is cooked and eaten as a vegetable).

15. Lightly – a little, slightly.

16. A fluffy baked Idaho potato – a dish made of potatoes cooked like pop corn.

17. A tad (of) – a small amount, a little bit (of); e.g. “Would you like some milk?” “Just a tad.”

18. Plain – without anything added or without decoration.

19. Beverage – a drink.

20. Carbonated water – aerated water containing small bubbles.

21. Non-carbonated water – plain water.

22. Innovative product – an original new product; innovation.

23. Bill BrE – a list showing how much you have to pay for food you have eaten in a restaurant; check AmE.

24. To charge something to somebody’s account – to record the cost of something on someone’s account, so that they can pay for it later; e.g. Charge the room to the company’s account.

25. Advanced – forward-looking, very up-to-date.

26. leisure – time when you are not working or studying and can relax and do things you enjoy.

27. To check out – to leave a hotel after paying the bill.

28. Entirely – fully, completely.

29. Fault – a mistake, error, lapse, guilt, blame etc.

30. Confusion – a mistake resulting from the lack of clear understanding of a situation.

31. To accept something with someone’s compliments – to accept something gratis, at the offering party’s expense, usually as an excuse for some fault.
