The International Symposium of Modern Art "Meeting Points",

Saransk, 15 – 24 July 2016

The International Symposium of Modern Art "Meeting Points" will be held from 15 to 24 July. It will not be a mere art plein air. The Symposium is a cultural platform which is going to become a creative laboratory as well as the ground for team work creativity. The Symposium is going to link a number of contemporary culture areas, such as exhibitions, art residencies, workshops, public lectures, practicals, round-table meetings and an arrangement of its own cultural activities (happenings, performance art, etc.). It is a unique cultural event that will facilitate the development of contemporary art, social innovations and creative initiatives.

This project will last for two weeks. During this time, ten participants (known painters of today, young artists, curators, fine art experts, etc.) will be exploring the local area, materials and content. The result of this work will contribute to the local cultural environment, demonstrate the relations diversity between the artist and the present-day society and also between the environment and the current global events (pictorial art, sculpture, public art, installations). The urban space along with the natural zones contiguous to the Erzia Museum will serve as an exhibition area.

Specifications

The symposium participants will have to do 1 or 2 works. The creations are to be performed in the following directions: "Happening" (up to 3 participants), "Performance art" (up to 3 participants), "Installation" (up to 3 participants), "Presentation of collection" (up to 3 participants), "Video art" and "Photo art" (up to 3 participants), "Mural" (up to 2 participants), "Objets d'art" (up to 2 participants) in accordance with the symposium’s main theme.

The organizers will make the expendable materials available (metal, cloth,
lighting devices ("thread" and "rain" strings of lights), sheet glass, silicone-based adhesive, exterior paint, brushes, photograph paper (paper size: A4, A3, A2; formation: linen cloth)). The author should provide any additional materials and equipment for oneself if needed.

The organizers will provide all the participants with the return fare by rail (Moscow – Saransk-Moscow), accommodation (2 meals per day are included), the exhibition holding and publication of the "Meeting Points" official booklet.

Obligations of the participants:

— Each participant that has received the official invitation from the organizers must confirm in writing their participation in the International Symposium of Modern Art "Meeting Points" (by e-mail).

— Each participant must donate and convey all the creations that will be made at the symposium along with its exclusive rights for further use, reproduction and publication to Mordovian Erzia Museum of Visual Arts.

— Each participant is required to provide the organizers with its own personal data, digitized pictures of the works that will be created at the Symposium and its detailed description (the material, author’s technique, the tools used, the size and the year of creation). All the provided information will be used for publication on websites, in the booklet, presentations and other publicity releases.

— Each participant will have to provide the expendable materials and tools for oneself (the ones that are specific and not provided by the organizers).

Special terms

The International Symposium is open to young artists (18 - 35 years old) who are professionally engaged in the visual arts (regardless of affiliation to creative associations) working in the field of actual art (if the questionnaire-application filed on time, and the official invitation from the organizers is received).

The grand opening of the participants’ works exhibition will occur on July 24, 2016

Admission conditions

1. Travel expenses (the return fare by rail Moscow – Saransk - Moscow), accommodation and food, expendable materials provision, the organization of entertainment program will be fulfilled at the expense of the organizers.

2. The participants should e-mail their application forms (Enclosure №1) to this address: [email protected]. The deadline is on June 20, 2016. Each participant must attach from 5 to 10 photographs of its own works to the application form electronically (.jpg,.tiff, or.pdf picture size; minimum resolution - 180 dpi, maximum - 400 dpi). These works are to express the author’s creativity and experience level.

3. The applicants will be approved by the Professional Committee which includes the museum staff and the invited experts. The selected artists will be officially invited to participate in the the International Symposium of Modern Art "Meeting Points".
