The Essential Parts of the Aircraft.

1. The development of science and technology brought about the appearance of different types of the aeroplanes. The aeroplane of today differs greatly from the craft of many years ago. As a result of progress in science and technology it now develops high speed and has long range. Any airplane structure may be divided into five main sections: fuselage, wing, power plant, landing gear and tail unit. Each section has its own function.

2. The wings are light structures of all-metal construction which extend on each side of the fuselage of the aeroplane. The function of the wing is to provide necessary lift and support of the aeroplane in flight. They may also house engines, fuel tanks and landing gear while in flight.

3. The fuselage is the central body of the aeroplane. It houses the crew, passengers, equipment, controls and cargo. The fuselage may also contain the engine, fuel and oil tanks. It carries the landing gear and the tail unit. Fuselages of modern aeroplanes are also of all-metal construction.

4. The landing gear is one of the essential parts of the aeroplane. It supports the aeroplane on the ground and water. Thus there are different types of landing gear. Besides the landing gear structure has to reduce shocks of landing.

5. The power plant is the most essential unit of the aeroplane. It serves for developing power for flight and creating thrust.

6. In the rear of the aeroplane there is a tail unit. It consists of fixed vertical and horizontal stabilizers with movable rudder and elevator attached respectively to them.
