b) Description The scientific activity of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics is widely known in Ukraine as well as abroad. Here the world famous scientific schools on algebra, differential equations, probability theory, mechanics are functioning. Practically each department of the faculty has its own seminar, where the results obtained by the scientists of Kyiv University, as well as many other educational and scientific institutions are reported. There are organized three specialized Scientific Councils at the faculty, two of which are assigned for the defense of doctoral theses. The scientists of the faculty keep close contacts with their colleagues from many countries of the world. Such contacts are developing in various directions: joint scientific projects and grants (for last five years their number has exceeded twenty), business trips of leading teachers to foreign educational institutions for delivering lectures and carrying out joint scientific research, organization of international conferences and seminars. b) Description The Faculty of Information Technology is a structural subdivision of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The aim of the Faculty’s establishmentis to propel the Kyiv University to the top in IT-professionals training. The mission of the Facultyis to develop human resources in Ukraine in order to bring the country to the top in the IT industry. The Faculty’s key principle is “learning through practice”. The primary focus is on the practical experience of students in the following fields: software coding; creation of information technology systems and business management techniques and their implementation on domestic enterprises; design and development of computer networks and systems, development of future-generation intelligent systems (including robots, systems of natural language communication, systems, which recognize brain signals and convert them into appropriate actions of technical devices); intelligent programming; protection of information, information technology and systems from unauthorized access or harmful actions and management of this protection; construction of information and communication systems, which can implement effective technologies of information interaction, identification of necessary actions for IT development.

b) Description Physical Faculty is one of the oldest faculties of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. About 94 professors and more than 30 leading scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine work and lecture at the Physical Faculty today. Among the Faculty’s professors there are 1 academician and 2 corresponding members of the NASU, 33 full professors and 40 associate professors. More than 700 students and about 80 graduate students study at the Faculty. Annually, more then 10 candidate’s and doctor’s theses are defended at the Faculty. Our scientists publish about 300 articles per year in professional scientific journals in Ukraine and abroad. Physical Faculty actively takes part in international collaboration and conducts joint research with other leading universities and institutes in Ukraine and abroad. A striking example of international cooperation is our virtual X-ray and γ-observatory “VIRGO”. Besides, the Faculty supports the Ukrainian students’ branches of noted international societies such as OSA (American Optical Society) and SPIE (International Society of Optical Engineers). Every year several international scientific conferences on different topics of physics are conducted at our Faculty, including the conferences for students, postgraduate students and young scientists. Our graduating students regularly get offers for jobs and further education at the leading scientific-research institutions, universities, and enterprises, hi-tech firms in Ukraine and abroad.

General facts University description, historical data, special things Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is today a classic university with a distinct research profile, and the leading contemporary academic and educational hub of Ukraine. Its history dates back to November 8, 1833, when its establishment was supported by C.C. Uvarov, then Minister of Education, who founded the Imperial University of Saint Volodymyr with the transfer to Kyiv of the Polish Kremenets High School. The inauguration of the university was on July 15, 1834, the Memorial Day of Saint Prince Volodymyr. The University awards Junior Specialist’s, Bachelor’s, Specialist’s and Master’s degrees, Higher Qualification Post-graduate degrees and Doctoral degrees. Training and retraining programs are provided in 14 specialties of Junior Specialist qualification, 55 fields of Bachelor training programs, 49 areas of Specialist training programs and 98 fields of Master training programs.
9. Compulsory Additional Activities Sport activity is compulsory during the first two years of studies. The University pays close attention to students’ physical activity and provides modern sports complex for swimming, aerobics, athletics, football, volleyball, special health group studies etc.
